In the last couple of years the make-up game has changed a lot due to improved textures and new formulations, but one of the products that has undergone a great transformation is the highlighter. Due to it’s power of transforming dull, lacklustre skin into that healthy glow realness, brands have created a multitude of types from powder to cream, to liquid or mousse formulations.
As a make-up artist I have worked with so many formulas, but last week I tested the first cushion highlighter from Laneige, that was also the first Korean product I ever tried. From the moment you open the box the packaging feels luxurious and hi-tech, with silver and pale pink tones, also with a good quality mirror. In the picture below, you can see a plastic lid that closes and keeps the product away of any dirt or dust particles, which is a big plus for someone who takes care of hygiene like myself.
The product itself it’s a liquid encapsulated in a foamy sponge, that dries almost instantly after contact with the skin, setting itself with no powder needed. It gives a beautiful, subtle glow, with tiny iridescent particles that melt into the foundation effortlessly (but you can also apply it on a bare face) and it’s buildable, so you can intensify it, by adding more. The weightless texture is not sticky at all, leaving behind dewy, ethereal skin. Not to mention that the SPF 30 makes it the perfect choice for day wear, even if you’re in a hot climate.
Easy to slip in the purse and reapply over the day, but rather than applying it with the sponge applicator, I prefer using my fingers or a brush, because I feel I have more precision and less product waste. In general with cushion products you get a bit less quantity than in regular products, but the quality exceeds the expectations in all aspects: the packaging, formulation and texture of Laneige’s highlighter made me wonder why I haven’t tried Korean products sooner
